Us at Mono Lake

Us at Mono Lake

Here we are at Mono Lake. We decided not to kayak in the lake because the salinity is 3 times more than the ocean. The water feels slimy and leaves a residue on the skin. The bird season doesn't start until late June, at which time many species of migratory birds stop at the lake for refueling. The strange looking towers behind us are called tufa towers. For more information about the lake click on this link.

Hey guys! I really enjoyed looking at the pictures from Mono Lake. I have never seen or heard of the lake-Ray had of course. I clicked on the link and read about the lake. Really interesting! You're sure you didn't want to swim through the alkali flies and brine shrimp goo! Why not!? At a pH of 10 I don't blame you for not. Although you could have washed laundry there. Can't get much better soap! Keep posting!

Mono Lake sounds kind of like the Dead Sea. Going in there would certainly have found any cuts or scrapes you had. It wouldn't be my first choice for a refreshing dip.
